FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Should the puppy be tranquilized? NO! It can be dangerous to your pet's health because drugs act differently at the pressure of 8000 ft. above sea level, which is approximate pressure in the cabin and cargo area during flight. If you are worried about the puppy becoming nervous during transportation, we have the pup used to a transportation container (crate) and place a favourite blanket or toys with him/her to make him/her more at home.
2. Rule for flying Puppies? Puppies must be at least 8 weeks old and have their first set of vaccinations.
3. What can cause problems with a flight? Extreme weather can change flights with animals (too hot or too cold). They have to maintain a normal body temperature so these extreme weather patterns can cause problems with flights without warning.
4. Can two or more puppies travel together? No more than two puppies may travel in the same transport container. The puppies must be 8 weeks to 6 months old, be of comparable size and weigh 20 pounds or less.
IATA regulations ensure that airlines, shippers, acceptance and handling staff follow the
international standards for the acceptance and handling of animals. These regulations contain specific packaging and welfare requirements which are designed to ensure that the animals arrive at their destination healthy and in good condition.
IATA container requirements (for pet shipping purposes) are rigid plastic pet kennels based
on animal size. The container must be big enough for your pet to stand normally, turn around
and lie down. The correct amount of ventilation openings for good air circulation are required.
The container must be correctly labeled with the standard IATA Live Animals Label, and the
“This Way Up” labels on at least 3 sides of the container.
